The Proxy Privacy Settings allows the type of concealment to be configured for the proxy server to perform. Concealment lets you strip certain HTTP headers from requests as they pass through the proxy, protecting the users with proxy privacy.

The four settings provide the choice for none, standard, paranoid and custom proxy privacy concealment.

  • No Concealment No header cleansing is performed and requests are passed through the proxy unmodified. This is the default proxy privacy behavior and should be chosen if there is trouble reaching certain sites.
  • Standard Concealment From, Referer, Server, User-Agent, WWW-Authenticate, and Link, headers are all stripped from the request before it leaves the proxy privacy.
  • Proxy Privacy Paranoid Concealments All headers are stripped except for Allow, Authorization, Cache-Control, Content-Encoding, Content-Length, Content-Type, Date, Expires, Host, If-Modified-Since, Last-Modified, Location, Pragma, Accept, Accept-Charset, Accept-Encoding, Accept-Language, Content-Language, Mime-Version, Retry-After, Title, Connection, and Proxy-Connection. This is the most proxy privacy "paranoid" option.
  • Custom Proxy Privacy Concealment This option lets you choose what headers to cleanse at the proxy.

Any headers not checked will be permitted through as-is.

Instead when they go down to the corner store, they think they are not anonymous anymore because apparently everyone knows about them there, there is no proxy privacy involved.

But if you slightly change your point of view, if you’re looking at databases and tracking and how that data’s used, the fact that the cashier at the corner store knows you by name and plays jokes with you, doesn't really mean that your proxy privacy information about your preferences and habits is ever placed into a database, recorded, shared, sold to the parties to maximize the opportunities and proxy privacy profits that can be extracted by future potential commercial interactions with you.
